No More Rain Barrel Envy for me!

by jessica on November 3, 2009

rain_barrelWhen Annie received her free rain barrel from the city of Los Angeles, I tried not to be green with envy. As a Santa Monica resident, I did not qualify for the give-away. But now it’s my turn.

On Sunday, November 8,  from  10 a.m. - 2 p.m.  at the Santa Monica Airport (3050 Airport Avenue, Santa Monica, CA), the City of Santa Monica’s Office of Sustainability & the Environment (OSE) is holding its first annual rainwater harvesting products showcase and sales event. Admission to the event is FREE and rebates are available for all featured products. As far as I can tell , the rebates are not limited to Santa Monica residents.

Local experts will be on hand to demonstrate how to install rain barrels and cisterns-for those of you who are particularly ambitious.

Why should we bother to harvest rainwater?

  • It protects the Santa Monica Bay from polluted runoff
  • It reduces potable water demand
  • It adds a little pizzaz to your life and makes your neighbors think your really cool.

I’ll be there on Sunday- in my Inspire Change tee shirt. Come join me.
