Community Turns Out for Green Fun and Finds
Last Saturday was a great chance to connect with friends, new and old. The Inspire the Change booth happened to be right near the reptiles - such amazing creatures, and right behind Solar City. Thanks to all who stopped by our booth to chat, make a maraca, buy a tee shirt - or do all three!
We both had a chance to check out the other booths at the Festival. Annie had a Proustian moment as she turned the corner to the Old School Laundry soap booth - brought her back to clothes washed at grandma’s - fresh smelling, warm from being line-dried in the sun, deeply comforting. Multi-talented owner Renee Gunter is also a landscape designer, specializing in drought tolerant gardens - cool!
Jess said hello to the Sustainable Works folks - their workshops in Sustainable Living are legendary. She fell in love with their Alternative Cleaning Kit - great display, great ideas. Annie stopped by to check in with Sandrine at June Fifteen - her bags bring elegance to eco-friendly shopping. Sandrine is also involved in the Ballona Creek Renaissance, an organization that works to “renew the Westside’s forgotten river.” She also stopped by the reDiscover crafts area to check out what the inspiring creative reuse team was making.

Of course, we had some creative reuse going on back at our booth, with 99.5% recycled maracas. Jess has been collecting empty TP rolls for months, and with a little drawing on recycled scripts, a scoop of old rice/lentils/popcorn from our pantries, double-stick tape and beads from broken jewelry saved from the rubbish bin at Robbie’s work - Ta-Da! Shake, shake, shake! Shake yo’ booty!
Kate Anderson, the MVCC Zone 3 Director and state assembly candidate, won our tee giveaway and we enjoyed what we saw of the Silt Circus. Thank you to the Mar Vista park staff and MVCC Green Committee for pulling it all together!!
